For everyone
HOP creates a fairer film and television industry by building a studio that celebrates difference, and embraces a range of specialised needs on site. Equality of opportunity is promoted by providing faith rooms, creches, and disabled access throughout our plans - We are making a commitment to our studios being an attractive and inclusive place to work for any visitor to site.
HOP makes a long-term commitment to Bedfordshire by providing a raft of apprenticeship, employment, and education opportunities for the community. By building on Bedfordshire’s existing creative foundations we will form a globally-recognised hub for talent. The BFI has said that the film industry needs at least 10,000 new entrants over the course of five years to keep the UK at the vanguard of global film production - We are already building positive relationships with education and business organisations across Bedfordshire to help in achieving this. Even at concept design stage we are creating a range of opportunities, details of which can be found below.
A fairer, inclusive space
Over 2.3 million sq ft of new studio space is required in the UK by 2033 to satisfy demand. There is an onus on film and television producers not only to make space, but to make it the best and fairest that it possibly can be for the crews using them.
We have worked hard with the architect to devise a masterplan to meet the needs of the broadest possible cross section of people. To talk to us about how excited we are to welcome crews to our site, follow the link below.
HOP Impact (Phase 1)
Skills & training, direct employment and economic impact
HOP Bedfordshire offers
On-site provision of childcare means comfort for those working on site that they can tackle new projects without the added stress and complication of separate arrangements. This becomes a cornerstone of our offer because it affects the daily lives of so many.
HOP see this project as our chance to provide jobs through training and apprenticeships. We’re already deep into discussions with local education and creative organisations to discover what skills, training and apprenticeships can be provided.
Respect for faith is a massive component in promoting a sense of belonging in the workplace. In all areas the infrastructure accommodates this - From spaces to observe religious beliefs, to meeting dietary needs at the on-site catering.
A driving force behind these proposals is a commitment to widening participation in film and television in Central Bedfordshire. This film studio will attract major production companies to the UK, which will drive local business growth and employment.
Starting with a blank sheet of paper means building studios that take account of the end user being able to reach their place of work easily. All buildings within the site area have been designed and arranged with this as a key driver.
The studio will generate training and apprenticeships opportunities, creating a pool of talent from the local area. The studio will also be serviced by local tradesmen and service providers, creating a range of employment opportunities through construction.
